Refreshing Your Home for Summer on a Budget

With warmer weather and longer days, summer brings many changes to our routines. The kids are out of school for the summer, the office closes early on Fridays, and the days just look different than they did in the spring. Because so much is shifting around us, it’s the perfect time to make a few changes to your home.

A summer home refresh might be the last thing on your plate or that you want to budget for, but it doesn’t have to be costly for your wallet or your time. By making a few simple changes to your living space, you can bring the new, bright season that’s outside right into your own home.

Refresh your pillows

Changing up the pillows throughout your home is a simple yet highly effective way of giving your space a summer refresh. There’s no need to invest in new pillows when you can find pillow covers of all shapes, sizes, and colors online and in stores. Adding new colors and textures can brighten up any space and create a relaxing environment for those summer evenings spent at home. Bolder shades of blue, yellow, and orange are great options for your summer decor.

Refresh your furniture

Refreshing the layout of your existing furniture is an easy way to bring new life to your home’s spaces. Simply shifting your couch to the opposite wall in your living area can make the space feel brand new this season. Try swapping out your bedroom rug for your dining room rug or bringing your faux olive tree from the kitchen into the dining room. Moving around your existing furniture and accessories can help refresh your rooms without spending a penny.

Refresh your organization

You’ve probably seen loads of organizational videos on social media. Maybe you’ve even ordered a thing or two because of them. Organizing your home can seem overwhelming, but it helps to take it room by room. When you start with just one room, you can better focus on figuring out what works within that space and what needs to be removed. Getting your rooms organized is a simple way of making your home feel stress free and welcoming this summer. Use this opportunity to get rid of the frame that you’ve been holding on to since high school or the lamp that no longer works.

Refresh your scents

It’s a great idea to mix up the scents in your home this summer. Candles, plug-in air fresheners, sprays, and oils come in all different fragrances. You can pick the dispersal method that works best for you but look for the scents that you might not gravitate toward in other seasons. Citrus, tropical, and other fresh, crisp scents can easily brighten up your home. Even if you can’t make it to the beach this summer, you can bring the beach to you with a salty, seaside scent.

A summer home refresh doesn’t have to be an expensive or time-consuming process. By adding in a few new elements and shifting around what you already have, you can make your home feel fresh and warm to better match the summer season.
