Must-Have Cleaning Hacks

In the age of social media, it seems like there’s a hack or a tip for just about everything—including cleaning.

Whether you’re looking to save time and money or just make the process more efficient, these clever ideas and tricks from TikTok can help keep your home spotless.

Cleaning shirt under sink

Eliminate stains

All you really need to remove a stain is a can of shaving cream. When you get makeup, coffee, or food on your shirt or pants, just spread a little of it across the stained area and let it soak into the fabric for twenty to thirty minutes. Then give it a scrub with your fingers, and rinse the area with cold water. The stubborn stain should be gone.

Remove stickers with tape

If you’ve ever been frustrated trying to remove a sticker from a newly purchased item, there’s a simple solution that can save you time and effort—a piece of tape. Start by pressing the tape securely over half the sticker. Then swiftly pull up the half that’s not stuck to the sticker, and voilà: the sticker should come off smoothly without leaving any residue behind.

Steam-clean your microwave

Make this appliance sparkle by heating a water-filled microwave-safe bowl in it for at least three and a half minutes or until the water starts boiling and creates steam. This will loosen the food particles and grime, allowing you to easily wipe it all out with a wet cloth.

Strip your towels

Stripping—the process of removing built-up dirt and grime—is a great method to revive your towels. First, fill your tub with hot water and add ¼ cup each of Borax and washing soda as well as ½ cup of powdered laundry detergent, and stir everything to make sure the cleaning solution is evenly mixed. Completely submerge your towels, and let them soak for about four hours, stirring occasionally to better release the buildup. Then wash as normal, and you’ll be left with noticeably cleaner towels.
