4 Ways to Revamp Your Home Office

Working from home can be both a blessing and a curse. While many enjoy the flexibility that it provides, others can be hindered by every distraction imaginable. In an effort to be as productive as possible, take the time to give your home office a facelift—your career goals will thank you!

Declutter your desk
This might seem like a no-brainer, but after a long year, there’s a good chance that your desk is in need of a deep clean. If your desk seems to be buried under papers, go through them and see what you can file away or shred. Consider adding a couple of folders to house current projects, and a filing cabinet underneath the desk. It’s also a good idea to utilize a mug or a vase to store your writing utensils—i.e., pencils, pens, and markers. Give yourself enough space to think!

Quit straining
According to the American Optometric Association, the average American spends seven hours in front of a computer screen per day. While many assume that brighter is better, a glare on the monitor causes us to squint and strain our eyes even more. When reconfiguring your workspace, it’s best to set up your computer to avoid glare from the room’s lighting.

Find a new seat
While you don’t need to drop hundreds of dollars on a brand-new chair, upgrading to a more comfortable chair can contribute to your productivity. If you’re on a tight budget, consider searching your local thrift store. And although looks are important, they’re not everything. Oftentimes, a fresh coat of paint or stain can be all a weathered piece needs.

Add fun accessories
More than likely your personality shines through in the other rooms of your house, so your office really shouldn’t be any different. Just because the space is dedicated to work doesn’t mean that it has to be boring! Adding fun pieces—throw pillows, artwork, or knickknacks—can help you express your creativity and truly make the space your own.

Take the time to give your home office a makeover, and watch as your motivation and productivity kick into overdrive this year!
